Ndugu Chancler Lays Down Percussive Grooves
In this video, Ndugu Chancler explores the application of congas and bongos in Pop and Funk music and how to the percussionist can adapt various rhythm patterns to accommodate the rhythmic grooves. These patterns can work with Funk, R&B, and Pop rhythms. Of course, when in doubt always refer to the tradition. Now you can use various patterns on congas and percussion so they can be played as intros to songs. That allows the drummer and percussionist to switch roles. The percussionist can play a percussive intro to songs that are funkily driven. In this video, Ndugu is using Toca's Custom Deluxe Wood Congas and Pro Line Timbales. Ndugu has appeared on the some of the greatest pop albums of all time, including Michael Jackson's Thriller, in many capacities: session drummer, percussionist, producer, co-producer, writer, instrumentalist and vocalist.
