AJ Flores
At
the tender age of four, AJ Flores was already rocking the living room
on a miniature drumset provided by his parents. At that point, his family
concluded, it seemed that the child was destined to beat the drum. But
who could have forecast that Flores, aka "Rock", would
win three Grammy Awards?
A nominee for percussionist of the year at the Tejano Music Awards,
in 2002, AJ takes his art seriously. His pride, confidence, versatility
and showmanship have made him one of the most sought after percussionists
in the industry.
Percussive influences include Giovanni
Hidalgo, Richard Bravo, Edwin
Bonilla, Ron
Powell, Tito
Puente, Changuito, and Art Mesa. They provide
inspiration for Rock's work with a long list of musicians including Jennifer
Peña and Los Jets, Bobby Pulido, Jimmy Gonzalez and Grupo Mazz,
Jay Perez, AB Quintanilla and Los Kumbia Kings, along with the acclaimed
Drum Café.
AJ has toured with Drum
Café since 2004. Currently he is the Musical Director
for their Drum
Café West division. Busy
recruiting, auditioning, and playing with Drum Cafe, AJ continues to
finds time to record albums for Tejano Music and perform at major events.
Flores attributes his top echelon success to an all-consuming passion
for learning, performing, and sharing his music. As testimony to an ethic
of hard work, AJ has received two Latin Grammys, a Grammy, and countless
citations and certificates.
