Lance Beckford
Lance Beckford first started playing with his church's adult worship
team at the age of thirteen, after they had seen him play drum set with
a youth band. Since there was a drummer already in place, the team gave
Lance an opportunity to play percussion and experiment with congas, bongos,
and hand percussion. Although, Lance
had no formal training in hand percussion, his background in trumpet
and drum set made the transition to percussion a natural progression.
Lance recorded albums as a percussionist for First Presbyterian Church
of Covina. Soon musicians soon began to hire him to work in the studio
because of his passionate and inspirational style. To help develop his
reading, performance and creativity skills, Lance joined bands of different
genres.
Beckford continued to study drum set and percussion through high school
and early college. Soon afterwards, he decided that it was time to really
make a big step into a musical career and was accepted into Musicians
Institute in Hollywood to study at the Percussion Institute of Technology.
Lance graduated as Outstanding Student of the Year from PIT in September
of 2006.
Soon after graduating from Percussion Institute of Technology, Lance
made a strong reputation for himself as a drummer/percussionist in the
southern California area. He also started the band, Sempiternity and
began incorporating drum
set accessories into his playing. In the last
several years, Lance has developed a deep love for the Cajon using it
as a drum set alternative in acoustic settings.
Through his teaching, Lance experiences the joy of inspiring others to
be accomplished musicians. He is proud to endorse Toca as
an artist and educator.
