Majek Fingers Drumming School

Orlando Primo hails from Georgetown, Guyana & currently resides in New Orleans, LA. He began playing drums at the tender age of seven with his brothers at their father’s spiritual services. From there he continued to improve and excel in his art, ultimately becoming one of the most talented African drummers of his time. He is now a household name, having created his own unique drumming style that speaks to audiences worldwide.

He and his brothers formed a group called the Primo Brothers in 2003. The group effortlessly won the EKaabo  Kabiesi Competition in 2004, 2006 & 2007 and placed second in the African Cultural Association Drumming Competition in 2005.

Orlando became the face of African drumming in Guyana after he launched Majek Fingers Drumming School, the first drumming school in Guyana, in 2010. He believes in using and imparting his gifts and talents. Majek Fingers drum school is built upon two pillars: to inspire and to educate. Majek Fingers won 1st place at the Rupununi Music Arts Festival 2013.

Performances

Orlando has been featured in countless newspapers & advertisements, making him one of the most recognizable faces in Guyana.

Orlando Primo performs regularly with acclaimed artists at concerts and festivals all over the world to crowds of thousands. He has accompanied Win Butler of Arcade Fire’s DJ sets, Shared festival stages with Diplo, Jillionaire, & High Octane. He has represented Guyana in Barbados at the Global Day of Drums, in Suriname at the Inter Guyana Culture Festival, at the International day of peace in Brooklyn NY, & at the Congo Square Rhythm Festival in New Orleans, LA. He’s performed at the Muhtadi international drumming festival in Toronto, Canada & at the London, England Spiritual festival.

He has delivered lectures and workshops to students of all ages from primary schoolers at Ecole Bilingue to college students at Dillard University.
