Soloist, Clinician, Entrepreneur

From the early days of his career as Visiting Artist at Coastal Carolina Community College to his current work as a soloist, clinician, and entrepreneur, Mark Shelton has created programs, products, and educational services for a variety of ages. Mark’s musical journey began with school band in McNairy County, Tennessee. After music studies at Louisiana Tech University, Mark gained experience as a public school band director before graduate work at East Carolina University where he was a student of Harold A. Jones. A member of the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster, Mark has presented his solo percussion program, The Strike, Scrape, & Shake Show ™ to thousands of students in schools and libraries. A longtime member of the Percussive Arts Society, Mark has been a featured artist at the North Carolina and West Texas Days of Percussion as well as the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Compositions for keyboard percussion by Mark are published by PerMus Publications and HoneyRock.   Mark’s percussion work can be heard live and on recordings with Gateway Worship and his most recent solo recording Handpan Serenade is available on iTunes and Amazon.  Heritage Music Press has published five elementary music books written by Mark.   His percussion articles appear regularly in the magazine Worship Musician.
