Bobby López
Bobby López currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer at Texas State University. His duties include teaching applied percussion, percussion ensemble, percussion methods and is responsible for all percussion maintenance and inventory for the percussion department.
Mr. López is an active educator, clinician, performer and adjudicator throughout the United States. He received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from Texas State University. His teachers include Dr. Norman Weinberg, Dr. Paul Bissell, Genaro Gonzalez, Jim Casella, Murray Gusseck, Dave Sankus, Jeff Lee and Scott Johnson.
López was the winner of the 1998 DCI Multi-percussion solo competition with his composition Two Days. His piece Conversation for Two Tambourines has become a very popular piece in the percussion literature. His pieces and arrangements are published through Tapspace music.
As an educator Mr. López has worked with several percussion programs including Georgetown High School(TX), Cedar Park High School, Revolution Indoor drumline,the Texas State University drumline, and currently serves as the Front Ensemble Coordinator for the WGI group Rhythmic Force. He continues to clinic programs around the state and adjudicates many compeitions including the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest. López also maintains a private percussion studio and has had students win concerto competitions, participate in the Texas All- State ensembles and festivals such as the Interlochen Summer Institute.
Aside from his duties at Texas State University, you can see Bobby performing as a regular extra in the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Opera and Ballet Austin. He has also played with the Mid-Texas Symphony, Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. He is published by Tapspace music and is an endorser for Innovative Percussion, Inc.
